Drive Sweden Business Model Lab 2023-2024
The purpose of the Drive Sweden Business Model Lab project is to support Drive Sweden's work to tackle sustainability challenges that society and business are facing by accelerating the implementation and use of automated, connected, autonomous and shared mobility. The goal is to achieve this by identifying opportunities and removing obstacles to the business model innovation that is necessary for these technical solutions to have a commercial impact both in Sweden and abroad.
Business Model Lab (BML) works within quarterly focused themes that are developed in consultation with Drive Sweden's program office (in particular with the theme area Business Models) based on identified trends and input from BML's members. Within these themes, the project delivers webinars to contribute to strategic knowledge building and dissemination, and collaborative workshops to support idea generation among all of Drive Sweden's members and partners.
Business ideas with high potential are supported through a solid process including in-depth business modelling, development of new forms of collaboration and collaborative projects. Companies and projects with high potential to scale up abroad are offered specific support for this, which is delivered with the help of Business Sweden.
Background
The reason why Drive Sweden has invested in BML as a specific program support activity is that many interesting research and innovation projects do not lead to commercialization despite great potential. By early exploring business model aspects and making business model development an integral part of suitable projects, the probability of commercial impact can increase significantly, which in turn can lead to new sustainable technical solutions benefiting society.
Expected results
In 2024, the project is expected to:
- Arrange three to four theme area meetings in collaboration with the theme area Business Models.
- Follow up with solution-oriented workshops for the generation and development of ideas.
- Through workshops and follow-up support for project initiation, generate a project portfolio of more than SEK 10 million in budget.
- Process lead at least 10 scale-up candidates and in collaboration with Business Sweden contribute to international collaboration and scale-up of business models.
- Create or support five new collaborative projects through business model-driven research and development with support from KTH and/or other researchers in our network.
- Develop BML's own business model.
- Drive a specific in-depth theme within developed AI solutions for sustainable, safe and efficient mobility with the aim of creating young companies.
