New projects with a focus on safe and sustainable use of small vehicles

Thursday, June 29, 2023

Drive Sweden's latest call "Safe and sustainable use of small vehicles using digital technology" has resulted in seven new projects". Read about the call and the new projects.

Different small vehicles and micromobility in Gothenburg.

Small vehicles used at low speeds have the potential to increase accessibility to mobility while reducing congestion in the transport system. In recent years, many new types of small vehicles have entered the market. But the use of small vehicles is not increasing at the rate many would like and there is a great need to improve road safety. The granted projects develop and use digital technology that will lead to a safer, sustainable and innovative use of small vehicles.

A year ago, Drive Sweden invited to an open meeting about the need for innovation for small vehicles at low speeds, such as cargo bikes, bicycles, electric scooters and robots. About sixty people from academia, business and the public sector gathered around the question "Is innovation needed?"

- The answer was a resounding yes! It was established that this type of traffic is both underdeveloped and that the needs for improvement are great. Therefore, we opened a targeted call for proposals for this area. We are happy about the great interest the call has received! Seven exciting projects are now starting that develop and use digital technology with the aim of increasing the traffic-safe use of small vehicles. We look forward to hearing much more from these projects within Drive Sweden, comments Malin Andersson, program manager for Drive Sweden.

Congratulations on granted applications and welcome to Drive Sweden!
