Electric self-driving vehicles in the future decarbonised transport system

The purpose of the project, also known as Eldsjäl, is to create an increased understanding of how electrically and shared self-driving vehicles can affect and supplement public transport, but also how the transport system is broadly affected from a sustainability perspective.

The purpose of the project is to create an increased understanding of how electrically and shared self-driving vehicles can affect and supplement public transport, but also how the transport system is broadly affected from a sustainability perspective. The upcoming new vehicle concepts will be automated, shared and probably also electrified. Applied correctly, these vehicle concepts will contribute to a sustainable transport system.

The traffic office in Gothenburg, Västtrafik, K2 / Malmö University and Trivector have put together a strong interdisciplinary consortium that wants to conduct an applied study in which the potential of electric and shared self-driving vehicles is explored in the Gothenburg region, but results from the project can be used in a larger context. The project develops possible future scenarios which will then be modeled in VISUM.

Gothenburg City's new multimodal VISUM model is complemented by a MaaS module (Mobility as a Service) from the company PTV. From the scenarios, results are obtained in the form of how traffic is affected and parameters such as travel times, congestion and CO2 emissions can be calculated. Scenario driving and interdisciplinary analyzes provide better knowledge for the public parties about how new vehicles' concepts affect / supplement but also how they can be used within the public transport and transport system to promote sustainable development. The project is run in parallel with a project funded by VGR which includes the same partners. The parallel project focuses on the user perspective and customer experience of electric and shared self-driving vehicles. The projects are independent, but synergy effects are achieved by running them in parallel.
