DigInfra

Cooperation around cities' digital infrastructure for future mobility, or DigInfra, aims to support cities and authorities in finding new ways of facing challenges with and developing digital infrastructure fo an increasingly connected and electrified transportation system.

Digital infrastructure can be divided into hard and soft infrastructure. The hard infrastructure is of a physical nature like masts, cables, wires and sensors; things that transport data. The soft infrastructure is about regulations, standards and terminology and enables necessary data-sharing and is being used to improve services and functions in the transport system. An example:

This project targets different types of systems needed for services and functions to be working in a transport system with a higher degree of connected solutions, such as autonomous vehicles, charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, connected traffic signals, shared mobility services, geofencing, digital traffic regulations, delivery services and public transport.

Background

One of the main reasons the project partners commited to the project is a common sense of expectation on them to offer certain digital resources to enable new mobility solutions. They also share difficulties and challenges regarding how to use the resources at hand, how to determine what responsibilities lay on the different stakeholders and how to prioritize among investments.

If the cities, municipalities and other authorities cooperate on solving and developing these issues, the opportunities for future mobility solutions to reach its potential regarding sustainability may improve. Other ongoing projects focus first and foremost on enabling the technology for development and demonstration, lacking a forum focusing on implementation and upscaling with perspectives from public actors and other stakeholders imposing requirements.

Deliverables

Before the project is concluded, the following results will have been delivered:

  • An established structure for a collaboration forum based on the needs of cities, municipalities and authorities to be able to acquire knowledge, identify problems and solutions and to share lessons learned about the digital infrastructure required for the transport system of the future.
  • A mapping of actors imposing requirements in this context to be used for discussions and collaborations within Drive Sweden’s other thematic areas.
  • A context where technology providers, mobility actors, cities and other key actors can meet in a competition-neutral way to better understand each other’s needs regarding the development of digital infrastructure.
  • Identified project ideas needed for future collaborative actions
