Travalytics – An innovative solution for data on sustainable commuting

Travalytics is an innovative solution designed to support corporate sustainability reporting and reduce their environmental footprint, with a focus on employees' commuting journeys. The launch is now underway to help companies meet the new requirements set out by the EU Sustainability Reporting Directive.

Background and Purpose

With the introduction of the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), companies' responsibilities for reporting their sustainability efforts have significantly increased. The CSRD elevates the standards for sustainability reporting by equating it with financial reporting. Auditors will review sustainability reports in the same manner as financial reports, making the reliability of the reported data crucial.

Employee commuting is an often overlooked aspect of corporate sustainability efforts, but it is covered by the CSRD. Effective management of employee transportation can lead to significant reductions in CO2e emissions, while also improving employee health.

The purpose of Travalytics is to bridge this gap by offering an automated and user-friendly solution for collecting and analysing commuting data. With Travalytics, companies can not only meet the new reporting requirements but also actively contribute to reducing their environmental impact by identifying and implementing more sustainable commuting options for their employees. Through this tool, the project aims to combine efficient data collection with practical insights that can drive real change in corporate sustainability efforts.

Method and Expected Outcomes

Travalytics collects data through a mobile app and automatically identifies commuting journeys using advanced algorithms. The reports generated by Travalytics provide insights into CO2e emissions, journey lengths, modes of transport, and physical activity. The data and reports are designed to be easily integrated into corporate sustainability reporting.

The first trials of Travalytics will be conducted in Lund during autumn 2024, where participating companies will have the opportunity to evaluate and contribute to the tool's development. Following this initial testing phase, the project plans to launch Travalytics on the European market in 2025. The expected outcomes of the project include not only improved sustainability reporting in accordance with the CSRD but also tangible changes in corporate commuting habits, contributing to a more sustainable work environment and reduced carbon footprint.
