Transformation Map, phase II – Sweden’s Roadmap for Autonomous Mobility

The Transformation Map is a national initiative, funded by Drive Sweden, aimed at establishing a shared direction for how autonomous mobility can be introduced in Sweden – from pilot projects to actual implementation within the transport system.

The initiative brings together key stakeholders from government agencies, regions, cities, public transport, and industry. Participants include, for example, the Swedish Transport Agency, the Swedish Transport Administration, regional public transport authorities, and cities such as Stockholm and Gothenburg, alongside industry partners and international actors.

Phase 1 (completed) focused on analysing the current situation, international lessons learned, and identifying what is required to enable introduction in Sweden. The result is a concrete transformation map that structures challenges and measures within:

  • Governance & Policy
  • Regulation
  • Deployment & Ecosystems

Phase 2 (ongoing) involves translating this into actual progress. The work now focuses on:

  • Clarifying Sweden’s national direction and position
  • Developing regulatory conditions and their application
  • Enabling concrete deployments and demonstration environments
  • Strengthening collaboration between the public sector and industry

The Transformation Map thus serves as a shared framework to unite Sweden around the next steps – from analysis to implementation – ensuring that we both realise societal benefits and strengthen Swedish competitiveness in global development.
