Preparation project Testbed AV Trollhättan
In a nine-month project, the City of Trollhättan, together with NEVS and AstaZero, is investigating how the process for testing autonomous vehicles on public roads can be made more efficient.
When a company is to test autonomous vehicles on public roads, the process of obtaining permission from the Swedish Transport Agency is demanding. Through the project, we want to create the basis for this process to go faster and for Trollhättan and Sweden to be at the forefront of fossil-free, shared mobility of the future. The project does this by:
- Define prioritized development areas that support the industry's need for streamlined process for approval of driving with self-driving vehicles in public traffic.
- 3D scan current autonomous vehicle test areas (ODD) and process the data to support the autonomous driving technology (AD) in autonomous vehicles (AV) and thereby shorten the time to test drive such vehicles on public roads.
The preparatory project will create knowledge and better conditions for further work and project applications with the goal of forming a test bed (test environment) for AV in Trollhättan: an ecosystem of companies and organizations that enable test runs of autonomous vehicles within Trollhättan's municipal road network. The test environment must include support for vehicle technology, traffic safety, test personnel and insights into human behavior in relation to autonomous vehicles.
