GreenRoute – Optimising freight transport for a sustainable future
The project focuses on the visualisation of the climate impact of freight transport with the intention to encourage behavioural change.
Background and problem definition
The City of Helsingborg, which is a project partner, has the ambition to reduce the environmental impact of freight deliveries to the city's operations by changing purchasing behaviour and setting requirements for transport. The work is going in the right direction but is still behind schedule. The city is also striving to achieve net-zero emissions and to be climate neutral by 2030. To succeed in this, the city has various development projects linked to the area. One of the initiatives is to develop a prototype for a heat map that will provide a tool for decision-making to make freight transport more efficient.
Purpose of the project
The project will develop and introduce a prototype that contributes to planning and reporting linked to climate impact. The prototype will visualise and analyse the climate impact of freight transport in the form of a heatmap. The tool will provide a good understanding of which areas and routes in the city are exposed to a high climate impact.
The prototype enables:
- Improved planning and optimisation of routes.
- Detailed reporting on the climate impact of e.g. vehicles, shipments and customers.
- Decision support for freight buyers by visualising the possible climate impact of different transport alternatives.
The project will also validate the prototype through user feedback. This will contribute to a deeper understanding of the benefits of this kind of service/visualisation.
The results from prototype development and from user feedback will be used by MobiOne for further development of their IT solutions in logistics, transport and distribution. The City of Helsingborg will use the results to develop procedures and requirements for procurement.
