Digital Fleet Optimizer

Through new software, the project has aimed to optimize the match between the customers' needs and the number of vehicles available to them. Through a pilot, where a taxi fleet is used, the project has worked both with real-time data and an AI model of the future. The goal is for the vehicle fleets to be as efficient as possible, while at the same time travelers should have the shortest possible waiting times.

The project has developed a service that aims to optimize the matching between customer demand and fleet vehicles, both in real-time and an AI predicted future. The optimization is to be done across multiple fleets to maximize the vehicles´ utilization rates, but also to reduce customer waiting time. The goal has been to run a pilot where the developed system has been tested with actual taxi fleets, to validate that we can increase the partition of kilometres driven with customer value and decrease the customers´ waiting times.

Expected results and effects

By minimizing the driving routes without customer value teh project has also minimized the fleets´ resulting environmental impact and improved their profit. With smarter vehicle dispatching the project has also decreased the customers´ waiting times compared to existing systems, leading to improved convenience and strengthened sense of security as unnecessary waiting during for instance late evenings can be avoided. In the long run the ambition is to contribute to a more cost efficient, sustainable, and convenient mobility service, where multiple fleets can collaborate to meet the greater transport demand.

Planned approach and implementation

CEVT has developed the software that constitutes the service, partly with help of expertise and API:s provided by HERE Technologies. Taxi Göteborg and Taxi Stockholm have contributed with knowledge and experience from the mobility business during the development phase, to ensure that the end result improves their operations. Furthermore, the idea has been to test the first version of the service with some of Taxi Göteborgs active fleets in Kungsbacka, to validate that it reaches the set goals. Depending on the outcome of the pilot, a final version of the service is then to be developed.
