Lunch & Learn: Shared and Combined Data for Better Traffic Safety!

Road safety work has traditionally been based on accident statistics, which is a reactive method. As the number of accidents decreases, the need for complementary, proactive methods increases to achieve the goals in Agenda 2030 and Sweden's transport policy goals.

This webinar highlights the project's insights on how data can be used to stay ahead: 

• New methodology for finding risk locations: We show how analysis of speeds, deviations from posted speeds and occurrence of harsh braking from connected vehicles is combined with accident data to identify locations with increased accident risk.
• Data-driven decision support in municipalities: Hear how municipalities such as the City of Stockholm and Vallentuna have benefited from the analyses.
• The power of shared data: A central part of the project has been the collaboration and use of combined data from different sources, such as Nira Dynamics and TomTom. We discuss insights, legal aspects, and how such data collaboration can create added value for society.
• The living analysis tool: Ramboll will demonstrate the GIS-based dashboard developed during the project, where different data layers have been visualized and combined for analysis. We will also discuss next steps, including how future work with Machine Learning (AI) can refine the selection process and how municipalities can access this type of tool.
• More than just traffic safety: We are also looking at other benefits of vehicle-generated data, which can provide an update on the traffic situation in the city and detect disruptions.
